Samsung appoints new IT business director

Electronics vendor takes on former Canon employee to head its IT products division

Samsung Electronics UK has finally appointed a new IT business director almost 12 months after the departure of Neil Berville.

David Smith has taken up the role of UK & Ireland IT business director of Samsung's IT products division, joining from Canon UK where he spent two years as business to business marketing director.

Smith’s remit involves strengthening the market position of Samsung’s IT products by identifying new channels and routes to market, in addition to developing Samsung’s existing channel relationships and strategy. Smith will have overall UK & Ireland responsibility for the sales and marketing of Samsung’s mobile computing products, displays and projection technologies, as well as Samsung's print, fax, and copying products.

Prior to his stint at Canon, Smith held a number of posts at HP, including UK & Ireland SMB manager.

“My decision to join Samsung was based on both the growth and success it has achieved during this last year and the potential I see for this increasingly impressive brand,” said Smith. “At a time when the IT market is growing I want to help make Samsung IT an even stronger player in the commercial and public sectors. The combination of the innovative product line up we have for 2008 and our strong and ever-developing channel relationships can make us a formidable adversary in the market – I ultimately want to see the Samsung brand become number one across all three of our product groups.”

Smith will report to Mr MS Kim, managing director of Samsung Electronics UK. Kim said: “I am delighted to welcome David to Samsung as our new director for the IT business. We have no doubt that his experience and knowledge will see the business flourish and grow even further throughout 2008.”
