Westcon Group moves on mobility space

Distributor finalises the vendor line-up for its FMC bundles

Westcon Group has told CRN it is gearing up for a full-blown attack on the mobility space after finalising the vendor line-up for its fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) bundles.

The final two vendors to come on board are encryption vendor Pointsec and OnRelay, whose software is designed to integrate mobile phones with customers’ existing PBXs.

However, Westcon – which has traditionally focused on voice, data and security – is still waiting to finalise an agreement with mobility distributor Unique Distribution, which would supply it with Nokia mobility devices and provide after-sales support.

Bernie Dodwell, European security manager at Westcon, said: “Our offering is made up of 10 to 12 vendors and service providers. It is our clear objective to establish this solution and build on it.”

Dodwell said the strategy would lead to the creation of a broader mobility go-to-market reseller programme, similar to the VoicePoint, OneVoice, OneDefense and SecurityPoint schemes Westcon has launched over the past two years.

David Hinc, head of managed services at Unique Distribution, said: “We don’t play in Westcon’s space and it does not play in ours, so this allows us to maximise the opportunities of the convergence market.”
