US bidders queue up to buy Anglo Corporation
US retail players are understood to be looking at the possibility of buying up the remains of the defunct Anglo Corporation, following the company?s collapse into administration with debts of more than #7 million.
Stuart Tidy, managing director of Anglo Technology Group (ATG) said a number of US companies had been expressing an interest in Anglo Corporation and that a deal was expected to be concluded before the end of March.
He said: ?David [Gosling, managing director of Anglo] has been working closely with the administrators and liaising with potential buyers. A buyer for Anglo Corporation could be found within a week or so.?
Last week, Coopers & Lybrand, the administrators of Anglo Corporation, stated that in excess of 70 parties have declared an interest in buying part or all of Anglo (PC Dealer, 12 March).
Observers speculated that one potential buyer could be Mac Zone, which has previously stated that it has been looking around for a UK operation to give it wider coverage.
One US source said: ?Perhaps this could be the opening for Mac Zone to buy a PC Zone operation in the UK ? it is mail order, but it has been looking.?
Tidy said there had been some confusion about the links between corporate reseller ATG and Anglo Corporation, the company?s retail and distribution arm. But he stressed that ATG was trading as normal and had not been affected by the collapse.
