NCR

NCR's services revenue growth helped soften the impact of a dip in product sales. For the second quarter ended 30 June, revenue was down slightly to $1.54bn compared with $1.57bn a year ago. Net profit was down at $46m from last year's figure of $48m.

SGI

The sale of shares in SGI's Mips Technologies subsidiary helped prop up its fourth-quarter and 1999 results. For the quarter ended 30 June, SGI reported a profit of $158m. Excluding the gain from the Mips sale, net profit would have been $22m. Revenue was $829m, compared with $774m a year ago.

EMC

EMC reported a buoyant second quarter with growing demand from net firms and growth in fibre channel attached storage and software boosting results. Profit for the quarter ended 30 June was $288,8m.

Sybase

Sybase appeared to have turned the corner when it turned in profit of $14.3m, compared with $400,000 a year earlier and $5.9m in its first quarter of the year. Revenue for the quarter was $210m, down slightly from $217.8m a year ago.

Western Digital

Western Digital blamed tough competition in the hard drive market for its fourth-quarter loss. For the quarter ended 3 July, it posted a net loss of $101.5m and sales of $709.3m.
