Gateway plays with Toys R Us

Toy retailing giant to stock Gateway products throughout its 65 UK stores

PC manufacturer Gateway has added to its stable of UK retailers with the appointment of Toys R Us which will stock both its Gateway and eMachines brands of PCs and monitors throughout its chain of 65 UK stores.

The US vendor returned to the UK last year after an absence of nearly four years. Gateway first came to the UK in 1993, but in September 2001 the company announced it would be pulling out of all countries outside the US, culling 5,000 jobs.
Since its return, Gateway has been focused on growing its presence through the retail market with Staples, Comet, Currys and PC World on board. However, Sarah Shields, Gateway's UK country manager told CRN she wouldn’t rule out selling through the channel.

“Toys R Us offers a unique value proposition to consumers with its outstanding training services and stellar customer support,” said Ed Fisher, Gateway’s senior vice president of international. “At the same time, the Gateway and eMachines brands are rapidly gaining popularity in the UK as consumers recognise the quality and value that our products provide."
