GuardianEdge signs Sphinx as its second distributor
Software vendor looking to bolster market share
Encryption software vendor GuardianEdge has signed Sphinx as its second UK distributor to help it bolster market share.
Under the partnership, Sphinx will supply GuardianEdge’s flagship disk encryption product – Encryption Anywhere – to its VAR base. It will also become the premier training house for GuardianEdge in the UK. Sphinx also plans to recruit about 25 fully accredited resellers by the end of the year.
Lynton Stewart-Ashley, channel sales director UK and Ireland at GuardianEdge, told CRN: “We were very lucky to secure Sphinx because it is a premier value-added distributor and is very much a ‘go out there and do it’ kind of company.”
He added that GuardianEdge works with one other distributor in the UK, Avanquest. But he was confident that there will be no overlap between the two distributors.
“Avanquest focuses on a different business area and there is no clash,” he said. He added that the vendor will not recruit another distributor in the UK because it is keen not to sign too many partners.
“My philosophy is not to over distribute and over resell,” he said. “It doesn’t help to have conflict in the channel and have our partners treading on each other’s toes.”
Mark Hatton, managing director of Sphinx, said: “We had a big gap in our portfolio where encryption was concerned and we looked at several vendors. Encryption applies to just about any firm with a mobile workforce because it is all too easy to lose devices and laptops. The rise in regulatory requirements is also causing demand for the technology to increase.
“GuardianEdge has a good proposition and a good product set and we are already making sales.”
