NetScreen secures IDP strategy
Move follows acquisition of OneSecure
Network security vendor NetScreen Technologies has outlined its future strategy following its $41.1m acquisition of intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) appliance maker OneSecure (CRN, 2 September).
NetScreen said last week that it will integrate a subset of OneSecure's intrusion prevention and detection technology into its own devices. Simon Crumplin, managing director of reseller Data Integration, which signed up with OneSecure before the take-over, said its technology is "a good story to take to customers".
He said: "We only signed with OneSecure six weeks ago and we have already won a big managed services project based on the IDP appliance. This shows good speed to market."
OneSecure originally announced its UK launch in August in partnership with distributor equIP Technologies (CRN, 19 August). Within a week, NetScreen had outlined its intention to acquire the company.
NetScreen will rebrand the OneSecure IDP 100 as the NetScreen IDP 100 and will sell it immediately.
In a statement, Robert Thomas, NetScreen's chief executive, outlined the future strategy for the two vendors' combined technologies. "Our goal is to make intrusion prevention technology pervasive by leveraging OneSecure technology across the NetScreen product line and, in the longer term, in a new integrated security gateway," he said.
The company is aiming to integrate the IDP technology into its products and unite management platforms by the first half of 2003.
Crumplin said the combination of the NetScreen and OneSecure technologies will offer an attractive investment for businesses. "OneSecure has very interesting technology and NetScreen has a proven capability. Put them together and you have a market leader," he said.
Graham Smee, director at equIP, said sales of the OneSecure IDP 100 had been taking off. He added that the product would benefit from a large channel. "NetScreen has a big channel, so it can bring this leading-edge technology to more resellers," he said.
