Tivoli has admitted plans to scrap IT Director, the small business version of its enterprise management software, in January 2001.

Hoping to attack the sub-Fortune 500 market, the company had expected that its reseller channel would be able to generate sales of the product. But dwindling demand from value-added resellers has led to the demise of the product, Computer Reseller News can exclusively reveal.

Karl Freund, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Tivoli, said: "IT Director accounted for just half of one per cent of worldwide sales over the past year."

Steve Pearce, chief operating officer of Tivoli distributor InTechnology, said: "Tivoli has a large range of successful products but it missed the target with this one. Resellers found it irrelevant - there was no demand.

"Tivoli needs to work more closely with partners if it is to position the next product more successfully. Currently there is too much of a Big Blue corporate mentality."
