XPort recruits more experts
Lantronix seeking resellers for embedded device server products
Connectivity vendor Lantronix is looking for a channel to market its XPort embedded device server products.
"We are trying to add more VARs with specific areas of expertise, for example, in the medical sector," said Mike Kuch, Lantronix's product line manager.
"Although our traditional markets have been slow, with 10- to 15-year life cycles, this will change."
The products include an IP stack, web server, 10/100 Ethernet, email notification and web configuration in a package little larger than a standard RJ45 socket.
Lantronix, which underwent a change of management after running into accounting problems two years ago, claimed XPort lets hardware firms build Ethernet connectivity into devices that previously offered only serial connections, or none at all.
"XPort is a very exciting concept, and it is getting into some unusual things," said Syd Cochrane, UK country manager at Transtec, which sells the vendor's products.
"We find customers have already decided they want to use it; there isn't much pre-sales required."
