Techex loses its magic Wand in MD resignation

Distribution MD position to be run jointly.

Helena Wand, MD of services distributor Techex Communications ,has unexpectantly resigned after just one year in the post.

Wand handed in her resignation on 23 March, after discussions with David Randall, chairman of Australia-based Techex, returning to the Maidenhead branch temporarily to implement necessary changes.

The role of managing director has been taken on jointly by Mark Randall and Richard Biggins.

According to Mark Randall: 'When Dave went to Australia a year ago, he asked Helena to fill the role, but she had expressed some reservations about it.'

Randall denied there were any problems with the way Wand had run the business and said that the agreement to resign was entirely amicable.

'Helena's track record speaks for itself. There is nothing more to it than wanting to go off and pursue other interests,' said Randall.

Commenting on her sudden departure, Wand said: 'I went quickly so the company could move forward, but I am working from home, involved in operations and the initial handover.'

Wand added: 'It was decided between myself and David, as part of an end of year review, that the company now needs a more experienced person to take it to a different level.'

Although Wand refused to say if she had secured another job, she commented that she would be looking towards a manufacturer rather than a distributor or reseller for her next post.

Techex Communications was established in June 1996 following an MBO, led by a number of employees including Wand and former managing director David Randall, who left Azlan to join the company in 1995.

The successful MBO allowed the staff to buy 80.2 per cent of Techex Communications although the parent company, Techex Inc, still owns a nine per cent stake in the business.
