Mobile craving set to increase
Research firm predicts sharp increase by 2010
By the year 2010, firms will be even more mobile-device hungry, according to research by consultancy firm Deloitte and Touche.
The firm said established technologies such as mobile phones and desktop PCs will continue to dominate. But they will increasingly be supplemented by a growing range of auxiliary devices, which in turn will offer a good channel sales opportunity.
However, Deloitte has predicted that the gap between work and private time will decrease even more as the ability to connect and communicate increases.
Dave Tansley, partner at Deloitte, told CRN: “We believe that in the vast majority of cases the PC will be the device of choice for both home and business in 2010, so PC resellers will still be OK. But margins will be very tight, so supplying services is also going to be essential for VARs.
“Resellers will need to focus on getting a broader range of devices to a wider range of locations in a timely manner by 2010.”
Pierre Lams, co-founder of VAR Handheld PCs, said: “Mobile technology will be big business, which is why we started our company. We could see a trend emerging: the way people worked and lived demanded more mobile technology.
“We have doubled our business year on year in terms of revenue, and predict this will continue.”
