Redstor builds on construction deal

Surveying business plans European expansion

CNP has been able to replicate files across its WAN.

Reseller Redstor is poised to roll out more Riverbed Steelhead appliances for construction firm CNP as the surveying business reveals plans to expand its European footprint.

LandAmerica purchased CNP in November and has confirmed plans to expand with more sites throughout Europe.
Redstore already provides wide-area data services (WDSs) for six of CNP’s sites in the UK and Germany and it is anticipated that the Riverbed Steelhead WDS will be implemented in each new office opened by CNP.

Since Redstor won the contract in 2006, the WDS solution has enabled CNP to replicate its files across the wide area network (WAN) using a smaller bandwidth than before.

CNP can replicate 80GB of documents across the WAN in less than a week while only using 512kbit/s of physical bandwidth. Previously, this would have taken up to two weeks.

Chris Singley, sales account manager at Redstor, said: “The Riverbed is perfect for CNP as it speeds up connection between its offices and the technology recognises when files are the same to save sending the same thing over and over again.”
Jon Ashley, marketing manager at Redstor, said: “People think the fatter the pipe, the more data you can get down it, but that is not the case.”

Richard Seear, head of IT at CNP, said: “CNP chose both the Riverbed Steelhead and Redstor to implement it based on feedback from other customers. CNP will eventually expand into Europe, but it does not have a time scale on it yet.”
