Parity acclaimed for patient work

This month's winner of the CRN/Syscap Technology Innovator of the Month award

Improving the bedside capabilities of doctors and nurses at a hospital in Cheshire is the aim of this month's winner of the CRN/Syscap Technology Innovator of the Month award.

Parity Computers ICT designed and built a system that uses mobile computing units to allow nursing staff on the wards of the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology to enter patient records at the bedside.

The VAR, which is a Hewlett-Packard Centre of Excellence and is accredited by Technology Means Business (see www.crn.vnunet.com), designed a mobile wireless terminal that connects to the Centre's network.

It has a specially adapted uninterruptible power supply unit delivering a minimum run-life of 24 hours.

Sheila Stewart, head of project management and business support at the Centre, said: "It's great. It's exactly what we asked for. Parity came up with a good solution."

Parity worked with the Centre to bring all the elements of the terminal together. "Parity spoke to the potential end-users and came up with a design that met everybody's needs. I know they spent a lot of time looking for the best batteries, keyboards and display units," said Stewart.

Steve Wood, managing director of Parity, said he was delighted to win the June award. "It's very satisfying to have the hard work we put in recognised and to be seen as an innovator in a market that needs innovators to survive and prosper."
