Oracle makes an Agile move
Vendor agrees acquisition to bolster PLM market activity
Oracle has agreed to acquire Agile Software for $495m, giving it a foothold in the product lifecycle management (PLM) sector and another application with which to target arch rival SAP’s customers.
Charles Phillips, Oracle president, said in a statement: “The addition of Agile, which will serve as the foundation of our PLM offering, will further Oracle’s strategy of delivering industry-specific enterprise applications and allows us to offer another strategic application to SAP customers.”
David Mitchell, software practice leader at Ovum, said: “The acquisition of Agile will allow Oracle to begin to take the game to SAP in its heartland. In this respect the gloves are coming off. However, nobody should expect an immediate short-term market shift.”
