Cisco positive about end-of-year results

Networking giant Cisco has posted positive end-of-year results with strong UK activity fuelling the development

Turnover grew by 11 per cent year on year to $6.58bn, with the firm hiring an additional 1,353 employees, bringing its total number of worldwide staff to 38,413.

The vendor accredited growth to rolling demand for routers, switches and emerging technologies, such as wireless and security.

Keith Humphreys, managing consultant at analyst EuroLAN, said: “They are a staggering set of results with distribution in EMEA going well. Cisco is doing particularity well in the UK and it is now their second biggest geography outside of the US.

“This has been achieved through good management and also the economy in France, Germany and Japan has stumbled where the UK has continued to succeed.”

The EMEA region now has a 31 per cent slice of the Cisco revenue, with enterprise and service provider revenue growing by 15 per cent, a growth that Humphreys expects to continue.

Alex Black, strategy director at Cisco reseller Affinity, said: “We are seeing our emerging technology market growing and Cisco has good products and good sales and marketing.”

Black was buoyant about the voice and video markets and predicts continued growth in the IP communication, security and wireless sectors.

“It is a growing relationship and we have a strong affiliation on all levels. Cisco has spent a lot on R&D and we have benefited from that,” Black added.
