NextiraOne makes hospital visit

VAR wins contract to deploy pioneering communications network in fourth-largest UK hospital

Cisco Gold Partner NextiraOnehas won a contract to install a communications network at the fourth largest hospital in the UK.

The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has chosen the reseller to deploy what Cisco expect to be its most advanced medical-grade network in the country. NextiraOne was picked after extensive research by the Trust's IT team, which included a visit to the well-regarded St Olav's University Hospital in Trondheim in Norway.

The reseller will begin installing fixed and wireless networks, unified communications software, security products and location based services this month and the project is expected to last two years.

Peter Smith, public sector account director for NextiraOne UK, said: “Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust rigorously evaluated the potential delivery partners and we are delighted that we have been selected. The installation and commissioning of a medical-grade network in a live hospital environment is not a trivial task; however, our robust and committed approach to project management certainly resonated with the Trust.”

Andrew Fearn, director of health informatics for the Trust, added, “This announcement marks an important step towards our declared aim of being the best teaching acute trust by 2016. We envisage that the new network will offer huge benefits to the ‘releasing time to care’ program, enabling our clinical staff to spend more time caring for our patients and ensuring that the most current information is always available at the point of care.”

Terry Espiner, regional sales manager for Cisco said: “The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is set to become one of the UK’s showcase examples of how healthcare providers can use networking technologies to transform the delivery of healthcare services.”
