Capita Software wins contract with Glasgow City Council

Capita Software Services has million pound plus contract

Capita Software Services has won a contract from Glasgow City Council (GCC) worth in excess of £1m to provide it with a council tax and benefits application software system.

The contract will run over five years and the system is expected to go live in the first half of next year.

Ruth Simpson, a councillor at the City Treasurer of Glasgow City Council, said: “Capita was awarded the contract because it demonstrated best value, as well as expertise and reliability in the delivery of a high quality system to handle council tax and benefits.”

GCC claimed the new system will enable it to deliver “faster and more efficient” services to its 600,000 residents, as well as to comply with current and forthcoming government legislation.

The contract also includes a mobile computing and resident self-service element that will see Capita supply PDAs and associated software to enable council workers to calculate council tax when they are out of the office. Residents will also be able to check their accounts and make council tax payments online.

Paul Bradbury, divisional director at Capita, said that the deal with GCC is the ninth such local authority contract his company has been awarded since the beginning of the year.

“The procurement process lasted for nine months and was one of the most rigorous we have ever gone through,” he said.
