Ingram has a GoodLink for UK mobility VARs

Wireless messaging service is the next step in the distributor's European expansion strategy

Broadline distributor Ingram Micro has continued its mobility expansion strategy in the UK by signing wireless provider Good Technology.

The distributor set its sights on the mobility space last month with the appointment of a European mobility business team to improve know-how in the wireless sector.

As a result Ingram will offer GoodLink, a wireless messaging service for communication with Microsoft Outlook. It will be bundled with Hewlett-Packard’s Mobile Messenger and Ingram has claimed resellers across Europe can package it with device activation services.

Anita Lussenburg, director of vendor management at Ingram Micro Europe, was confident that its US relationship with Good can transfer to UK shores.

“Our mobile strategy is to get mobile data into the channel and Good Technology is a key driver of this,” she said.

Lussenburg said Ingram is targeting mobile resellers: “Ingram works with the key mobile vendors and we are happy with our current vendor set. It is a chance for VARs to get mobile infrastructures in place and we are looking for a wide range of resellers.”

Richard Hudson, vice-president for Europe at Good Technology, said the firm has been working in the UK for the past 18 months, with around 7,000 enterprise customers, but is looking to increase sales.

“Resellers will benefit as wireless is a relatively new market and this is a strong portfolio addition. We would like to work with as many resellers as we can, particularity those in the Microsoft Exchange field who want to move into wireless,” Hudson said.
