Cobweb ready to catch additional UK partners

Email archiving vendor claims recruitment will not affect its existing resellers

Email archiving service provider Cobweb Solutions is on the hunt for 60 UK VARs, following its partnership with storage vendor Zantaz.

Cobweb said the agreement will allow it to deliver an integrated managed email archival service for end-users of Microsoft Hosted Exchange. The service is based on Zantaz’s Enterprise Archive Solution storage management software. Cobweb claimed this will enable SMEs to reduce the costs involved with managing and archiving emails.

Michael Frisby, business development director at Cobweb, said: “Email archival gives extra revenue to the channel. By April next year we want upwards of 100 channel partners. We will target those in specific verticals, including ISPs.”

Cobweb operates a three-tier partner programme with Referral, Reseller and Platinum levels. Referral partners earn 10 per cent commission on all sales in their first year, while Reseller and Platinum VARs earn 15 and 25 per cent commission respectively.

Frisby added that Cobweb had previously held a channel recruitment event in an effort to attract more partners. He told CRN that it planned to hold a similar event this autumn.

“This will not affect our existing partners though because there are plenty of opportunities for all our partners in this market,” he added.

Alistair Edwards, senior analyst at Canalys, told CRN: “Archiving is an area where VARs can develop a good relationship with the end-user, but one barrier might be end-users’ reluctance to hand over email assets to their reseller.”
