Storage software maintains steady growth

EMC and Veritas dominate as storage replication sales increase

The global storage software market grew by 11.8 per cent to $2.1.bn year-over-year in the second quarter, with EMC and Veritas continuing to dominate, according to IDC.

The Worldwide Quarterly Storage Software Tracker discovered that

the market grew for its seventh consecutive quarter, with storage replication software growing fastest with a rise of 25.1 per cent year-over-year during the period.

Among vendors, EMC topped the market share list, with a 0.4 per cent growth to 30.6 per cent market share. Veritas saw its market share decrease by 0.8 per cent to 19.8 per cent. However, both vendors saw their revenue increase.

Rhoda Phillips, research manager at IDC storage software, said: “The storage software market continues its steady progress and pattern of double-digit growth, driven by customer awareness and concerns about expanding capacity and data protection.”

IDC’s latest research mirrors its previous quarter study, which saw the global storage software market grow by 14.9 per cent to $2.1bn in Q1 2005.

Roger Smith, managing director of VAR Solid State Solutions, said: “The market has become saturated and most enterprise sales now tend to be displacement sales.”
