Dell is outsourcing EMEA production to contract manufacturer Foxconn.

Foxconn will assume management of Dell’s operations in Lodz in Poland, which manufacture desktops, notebooks, servers and storage systems for EMEA customers.

Dell will become a customer of Foxconn’s although the vendor stressed that Dell employees at the plant will continue in their roles.

Dell has performed a phased migration of EMEA manufacturing activities from Limerick to Lodz over 2009, resulting in the loss of about 1,900 jobs in the Irish town.

The agreement is still subject to EU clearance and will have no impact Dell’s sales and marketing offices in Warsaw.

Sean Corkery, vice president of Dell supply-chain operations, said: “Extending our relationship with Foxconn allows us to help customers grow and succeed by making the most of their IT investments, in a way they’ve come to expect from Dell.

"We are pleased that Foxconn recognises the knowledge and skills of the Dell Lodz employees and will continue to rely on them to fulfil customer requirements and grow the operation.”
