Midwich signs with Sony and NEC Display Solutions

Distributor signs two agreements to boost market share in consumer and large-format LCDs

Distributor Midwich has bolstered its product portfolio with the signing of two new distribution agreements with Sony and NEC Display Solutions.

Midwich has been selling Sony’s business-to-business (B2B) products for some time, but the firm has now won a tender that will also see it sell Sony’s consumer products.

Raj Pandya, senior manager of audiovisual (AV) communications at Sony, told CRN: “We’ve never used a B2B distributor for our consumer products before. However, we have now given Midwich access to our consumer products, such as our Bravia LCD displays and DVD recorders.”

Darren Lewitt, divisional director at Midwich, said: “We have relationships with Samsung, Sharp, LG, Pioneer and Toshiba for their consumer products and, with the addition of Sony, we have an even stronger offering to take to B2B resellers in selected vertical sectors.

“There are a lot of different verticals that you can sell consumer products into now. For example, a lot of boardrooms want consumer LCDs and schools want DVD players. Consumer products are not just used in the home.”

Midwich’s deal with NEC Display Solutions will see Midwich become the only UK distributor to offer products from all major divisions of the NEC Group. Under the agreement with NEC Display, Midwich will stock the complete portfolio of NEC large-format LCD displays for the professional market.

Simon Jackson, sales director at NEC Display, said: “Midwich will give us greater presence within the SME AV reseller community. The ability of Midwich to supply the complete NEC AV portfolio, and the solutions expertise that they offer through True Colours, will deliver considerable benefits to our customers.”
