Back to school for Brocade and Vanix

Systems integrator clinches contract to overhaul college's network infrastructure with Brocade's help

Support network: New infrastructure will benefit college's 10,000 students

Systems integrator Vanix has clinched a £138,000 deal to upgrade the networking infrastructure at the College of West Anglia (CWA).

The new network, featuring Brocade’s IP switches, will provide the college’s 10,000 students with access to wireless LAN and voice over IP technology.

Toby George, CWA’s head of IT services, said, following the college’s merger with another further education provider in 2006, a network upgrade had been long overdue.

“We looked at the IT environment required to support the enlarged institution and it became obvious that considerable investment was needed to improve reliability and would help us move forward while reducing costs,” he said.

Paul Phillips, regional director for the UK and Ireland at Brocade, said the work would future proof the college's network.

“CWA has put in place a future-ready, reliable networking environment that will support the ongoing expansion and development of the institution and ensure students get maximum use from CWA’s teaching facilities,” he said.
