BakBone parts ways with CMS Peripherals
Vendor and distributor terminate contract after overlaps cause friction to business partnership
Data protection vendor BakBone Software has parted company with distributor CMS Peripherals after additional signings made by both parties started to cause conflict.
BakBone signed storage distributor Hammer in September, four months after CMS inked a partnership with vendor Acronis to distribute the Acronis True Image (ATI).
Joe Fagan, group product marketing manager at CMS Peripherals, said the distributor had enjoyed a four-year relationship with BakBone, but the partnership was exhausted.
“With our signing of Acronis and BakBone partnering with Hammer, there was a slight overlap and it did not make sense to continue,” he said.
Chris Ross, vice president and general manager for EMEA of BakBone Software, said: “We continue to look at different ways of growing our channel and BakBone partnered with Hammer to reach VARs that we previously could not.
“With Hammer, BakBone will continue to take market share this year.”
James Ward, managing director of Hammer, said BakBone’s solutions fit the distributor’s portfolio.
“We are currently running a 20 per cent discount promotion with its NetVault Backup Standard Edition,” he said.
“We have seen a surge in interest across the BakBone product range, with a particular focus on the Real-Time Data Protector appliance.”
