2e2 wins three-year £4.3m Waltham Forest contract

Integrator hired to build new IT infrastructure for East London borough

Much of the 2012 Olympics will be held in East London near the Waltham Forest area

Service provider 2e2has landed a three-year deal with the London borough of Waltham Forest to the tune of £4.3 million.

In the contract, which includes an option to extend for another two years, 2e2 will build and support a new IT infrastructure for the council’s One Infrastructure programme.

Graham Bell, head of ICT at Waltham Forest Council, said the council is revamping its infrastructure with a view to improving service delivery.

“The council has undertaken an ambitious transformation programme,” Bell said. “One way we’re going to achieve this is by upgrading and overhauling our current ICT infrastructure.”

Bell said 2e2 was chosen because the council believed it could do a quick, seamless and cost-effective job around hosted datacentre services, network provisioning, virtualisation, storage generally, and a migration to Microsoft Exchange.

The One Infrastructure programme aims, in part, to have the authority’s IT working as a unified and coherent whole, in line with the IT strategy for the whole UK public sector.

Mike Hockey, business development director at 2e2, said East London boroughs such as Waltham Forest were experiencing various major opportunities and challenges, such as the upcoming Olympic Games.

“The developments and events within the community will increase dependency on core services, and the technology that enables the efficient and effective delivery of these services,” Hockey said.
