Kaytech execs blacklisted over false declaration

The directors of defunct retailer Kaytech International have been disqualified for up to 15 years from taking part in the management of any further companies.

The Bromley-based retailer opened stores in London, Bromley, Manchester, Southampton and Birmingham. It also operated a number of in-store concessions in Debenhams stores. Kaytech International had two subsidiaries: Kaytech (UK), a mail-order company and Kaczer, a property holding company.

Kaytech was wound up in August 1993 with debts of more than #4 million.

Kaytech (UK), which traded from Sevenoaks, Kent, was wound up in October 1993 with a deficiency of #270,000. Kazcer, also of Sevenoaks, was wound up in June 1994 with a deficiency of #300,000.

Tomas Kaczer of high street, Sevenoaks, and Malcolm Huntley Potier of Cracketts, Brasted Chart, were banned for 12 and 15 years respectively for their conduct as directors of Kaytech International, Kaytech (UK) and Kaczer. They were also ordered to pay the Secretary of State's costs.

The High Court found that the directors had made false declaration to the Registrar of Companies, misrepresented the company's accounts and then used this documentation to obtain further credit. They also continued trading while insolvent, failed to keep adequate accounting records and failed to co-operate with the liquidator.
