Azzurri/Matrix tie-up rumours.
Firms play down talk of possible merger
The channel gossip line is buzzing once more with talk of a possible merger situation between Matrix Group and Azzurri Communications.
Both firms are highly acquisitive. Networking VAR Azzurri has made 12 acquisitions in four years, while Matrix has bought three trading subsidiaries of VAR Harrier Group and distributor equIP since the start of this year. However, when approached by CRN, both firms played down the rumours.
Matrix chief executive Ian Smith said: "Nothing's going on. We have a trading relationship with Azzurri; we buy its services to facilitate our voice business and sell its products through our distribution business."
Azzurri chief executive Martin St Quinton said: "We are constantly in discussions with many organisations and never comment on rumours or speculation."
Ian Cook, chief executive European operations at VAR Logicalis, said: "Acquisition to add capability in technology, services or business understanding is viable as a strategy."
