Zycko powers down with Virtual Iron

Storage distributor to offer power reducing solution to help firms save money

Storage distributor Zycko has partnered with virtualisation vendor Virtual Iron to help cash strapped firms across EMEA reduce their power usage.

The vendor’s Virtual Iron Version 4.4 uses LivePower technology – LivePower recognises when there is excess CPU capacity and consolidates virtual machines onto fewer physical servers. It then shuts down the remaining devices to save energy.

David Galton-Fenzi, group sales director at Zycko, said: “LivePower technology is a significant development in virtualisation software and will greatly reduce electrical power consumption, with energy savings passed along to users.

“This feature will be of great interest to the EMEA markets as businesses continue to pursue green initiatives.”

Bill Simpson, vice president of worldwide channel sales at Virtual Iron, said: “LivePower provides additional capabilities for small and medium sized enterprises to go green, save money and exemplify the functional depth and overall value of the Virtual Iron solution.

“In the current global economy, a low cost solution coupled with the LivePower features enables customers to do more with less. We look forward to working closely with Zycko to provide the EMEA market with more choices in virtualisation solutions.”
