Pinder takes leave of Ingram after decade

Resignation Departures continue as more senior managers bow out.

Lloyd Pinder, Ingram Micro vice president of sales, is the latest casualty to leave the distributor as the mass exodus of staff continues.

Since Sandy Scott's appointment as managing director of Ingram Micro UK six months ago, almost 100 staff have left the company (PC Dealer, 2 September).

Pinder, who has been with the distributor for 10 years left on 10 September. He was joined by senior marketing manager for Europe, Nigel Judd, who will leave this week.

Talking to PC Dealer, Pinder revealed: 'We have agreed to part ways. There were no non-performance issues, I have only had positive and constructive performance issues.' He added that 'only time will tell' whether the changes implemented by Scott would work.

Observers said they were surprised by the timing of Pinder's departure, as they had expected to meet him last week at the distributor's roadshow at Gleneagles in Scotland.

Alison Heath, sales director of Kingston Technology, said: 'I was very surprised Scott lost Lloyd as everyone in the industry, including customers, really rated him.'

David Atherton, managing director of Dabs, said: 'It is a shock because I thought he was really good.'

One industry source added: 'I think Scott is going about it in the wrong way. He is focusing on the wrong area and blaming the front end when he should be looking at the back end.'

Pinder's departure comes just weeks after the two sales directors in charge of telesales, Neville Ebanks and Clive Hailston, also left Ingram.

This week, Ebanks joined Computer 2000 as general manager of the retail arm. Their former roles at the distributor have been taken over by a consultant.

Peter Rigby, marketing director at CHS Electronics, said: 'In a short time, Scott has become very outspoken and critical of his rivals.'
