Multimillion-pound call to Bar for Securedis

Distributor becomes authorised IT security partner to the Bar Council

Order, order, order: Securedis claims contract will generate lucrative encryption sales for the firm and its resellers

Securedis claims its appointment as the Bar Council’s authorised IT security partner could translate into more than £1m in encryption sales alone.

The distributor has assembled a discounted encryption package specifically for the Bar, in conjunction with vendor Secuware.

The two-year deal also covers other security technologies such as anti-virus, backup and email security for the next two years.

Recently introduced regulations require Bar Council members working with government data to encrypt every device they use.

Andi Robinson, Bar Council consultant for Securedis, said a lot of the Bar’s 16,000 to 17,000 barristers and QCs use netbooks and said Securware is currently the only vendor with an Atom-optimised encryption solution.

Robinson estimated there to be 45,000 potential end points that would need securing. He added that the distributor is looking for VARs to help deliver the package.

“In theory this is a multimillion-pound contract,” he said. “Now we have been given the Bar Council’s seal of approval there is no reason why we cannot take this message out to any other organisation when they ask us what our provenance is.”
