Appliansys hits DNS market
Manufacturer recruits resellers in Europe to tackle Directory Name Servers arena
Appliance manufacturer Appliansys is planning to crack the market for Directory Name Servers (DNS) and is recruiting resellers in Europe.
The company, which has linked up with name server software maker Nixu, said firms were looking to bring DNS in-house instead of outsourcing it to ISPs. Many firms have at least one DNS server in their networks.
Mike Clark, chief executive of Appliansys, said: "Our competition in this market - Infobox and Bluecat Networks - are not present in the EU. It is a good market to be in. I spoke to one US firm that spent about $500,000 a year managing DNS."
He added that benefits for VARs include short sales cycles and the opportunity to provide value-added services.
Juha Holkkola, a director at Nixu, said: "Our software is already in use in the UK at Barclays Bank, Siemens and Cable & Wireless."
Derek Warry, strategic alliance director at InTechnology, said: "Appliansys is giving the channel an extra dimension to move away from selling commodity."
