Apple takes a slice out of Performa price
Apple has cut the price of its consumer Macintosh Performa range and added two new systems to the line-up.
Benefiting from the biggest price slice is one of the Performa 5200 models, the type which have a combined monitor and system unit. The model which has 8Mb of Ram, 800Mb hard drive, and CD drive has dropped u300 to u1,099.
The similarly specced Performa 6200, which has separate system unit and monitor, has enjoyed a u250 price cut and come down to u1,099.
Price reductions across other models in the range vary from 6 to 18%.
The new Performas, the 5320 integrated machine and the 6320 modular model, come with 11 pre-installed software titles including Claris Works productivity software, and 11 CD-ROM titles. These include the Lion King Story Book, Aladdin Activity Centre, and Toy Story demonstration CD from Disney Interactive.
The machines come with Internet access software and connection to service provider Pipex. Grolier's Multimedia Encyclopaedia, and popular Mac game Myst are also included in the bundle.
The Performa 6320 with 8Mb of Ram,1.2 Gb hard drive, is priced at u1,649.
The same specced 5200 with 14.4 modem costs u1,699.
The 5200 with 16Mb of Ram, 28.8 modem, TV tuner and MPeg system is priced at u2,399.
