LSI Logic acquires SiliconStor
Deal expected to close at the end of the first quarter 2007
Acquisitive storage vendor LSI Logic has added to its mounting acquisition tally by grabbing privately held vendor SiliconStor.
LSI announced last week that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire the firm – which specialises in serial ATA (SATA) and serial attached SCSI (SAS) technology – for about $55m in cash. The deal is expected to close at the end of the first quarter 2007. The acquisition follows LSI’s $4bn merger with Agere Systems in December.
Bill Wuertz, senior vice-president for storage components group at LSI Logic, said: “As the demand for low-cost, high-capacity storage solutions with reliable connectivity continues to grow, we are starting to see a significant increase in the use of SAS and SATA disk drives in enterprises.”
