UbiNetrics signs deal with Portable Add-ons

Deal covers GA100 and GC201 wireless GSM accessories

Wireless distributor Portable Add-ons has signed a distribution agreement with UbiNetrics to deliver its GA100 and GC201 wireless GSM accessories to its resellers.

The GA100 transforms the Palm V/Vx personal digital assistant (PDA) into a mobile phone and data terminal, usable on almost any GSM network. The GC201 is a Type II PCMIA modem card which fits into existing Type II PCMIA modem slots on laptops or PDAs.

Steve Muttram, managing director of Portable Add-ons, said that since the management buy-out last November, the company has gone from strength to strength, signing new deals with vendors and original equipment manufacturer partners.

"The mobile computing space will be huge with all these new technologies coming out and, for resellers, there is the value-add aspect of training end-users, consultancy and supplying accessories, which will offer new sources of turnover," he said.

The deal follows Portable Add-ons signing a deal with software provider Xcellenet earlier this month. Portable will distribute the software vendor's flagship Afaria product, which manages the deployment and maintenance of mobile devices.

Bob Apollo, managing director of Xcellenet in the UK, said: "Although the wireless PDA sector is still an early adopters' market, this is something that both us and Portable wanted to start addressing now. It's an evolutionary market and Portable has a great understanding and customer base within the sector."
