Allied Telesyn marks Spot
Networking vendor adds voice and data specialist to its distributors
A distribution agreement between Ingram Micro and Allied Telesyn in the UK is under review as the networking vendor signs an agreement with Spot Distribution.
Ingram Micro and Allied Telesyn signed a deal last June as the vendor sought to make gains through the broadliner's specialist networking division.
Kevin Vine, networking services director at Ingram Micro UK, confirmed that the two companies were reviewing their agreement. "We are carrying on with our deal but will not expand it," he said.
Vine added that Allied Telesyn did not account for a large volume of Ingram Micro business.
The review has coincided with Allied Telesyn's agreement with specialist voice and data distributor Spot.
The distributor grew out of TNS Distribution in 2001. TNS was an Allied Telesyn distributor until 1996.
James White, marketing director at Allied Telesyn, told CRN that nothing had changed in the vendor's relationship with Ingram Micro.
But he added: "We always review our distributors to ensure that we get the best value from one another."
Expanding the partner base is the driver behind the vendor's partnership with Spot. Julian Hubble, managing director at Allied Telesyn UK, said: "It brings us into contact with new resellers."
Spot said it will establish a dedicated sales and support team, including network equipment for voice, data, wireless and satellite.
Allied Telesyn currently sells through Computer 2000, OpenPSL and Micro Peripherals, as well as through Spot and Ingram Micro.
Terry Connor, managing director of Spot, said the firm is moving away from sub-distribution and is looking to take on more vendors through direct distribution agreements.
"We will be looking to sign more vendors for specific technologies in niche markets," he said.
Connor added that Allied Telesyn is a well-established firm.
"You see so many shooting stars, but Allied Telesyn has been around for a long time and is stronger than ever," he claimed.
