Veritas accepts Storability's assurance

Veritas Software has chosen Storability to be the first storage service provider enrolled in its partner support programme.

Veritas Software has chosen Storability to be the first storage service provider (SSP) enrolled in its partner support programme.

Storability, an SSP that calls itself a 'storage assurance provider', creates and manages storage solutions, both on and off site, on a pay-per-service basis.

A Storability representative rejected criticism of the company's self-description by claiming that it distinguishes the firm from other SSPs.

"When we take on the management of a client's data, we make recommendations for the purchase of hardware and software, then we manage it," said the representative. "But we never own the hardware or the software."

The company claimed that ownership of a client's hardware would create a conflict of interest. Security fears often prevent enterprises from outsourcing the management of their data and IT systems, according to the representative.

Jim Herman, director of business development at Veritas, said: "Storability helps us get to market faster by enabling customers to increase the effectiveness of their investment in software and hardware."

Marco Buchbinder, vice president of business development at Storability, said: "Membership in the programme is a significant accomplishment for us. It verifies the different approach we take."

Storability has been authorised to provide Level One and Level Two support on Veritas products.

As a member of the programme, Storability will have access to the Veritas internal knowledge base and be given a free phone contact with the support centre. Veritas will give Storability software support requests higher priority.
