Security giant Network Associates is running the rule over its entire product line, and will back out of any market it cannot dominate, its new chief executive, George Samenuk, warned last week.

Security giant Network Associates (NAI) is running the rule over its entire product line, and will back out of any market it cannot dominate, its new chief executive, George Samenuk, warned last week.

"There are no sacred cows here," said Samenuk, who took over at NAI after Bill Larson left last month. "If we can't be number one or two in a marketplace, we will look at dropping out of that market."

NAI would not leave any customers or resellers unsupported if it did drop products, said Samenuk. Product evaluations will take place over the next 60 days, and will involve discussions with channel partners, he added.

Previously Samenuk had warned that the company faced "difficult decisions" if it was to return to profitability this year. The first of these decisions saw the company abandon its ASP offering, myCIO.com, last week in an attempt to save $10m (£6.9m).
