Federation Against Software Theft win cash settlement after firm was underlicensed
The Federation Against Software Theft (The Federation) has won a substantial cash settlement of over $75,000 against a global courier company based in the US.
Acting on behalf of its industry member, Achiever Business Solutions, The Federation has been leading the negotiations with the company regarding its under licensing. The offender, which has to remain nameless, but is a well-known courier service with an international presence, was reported to The Federation by Achiever Business Solutions after the breakdown in discussions.
Robert Dent, chief executive Achiever Business Solutions said: “For any software company the goal has to be to protect intellectual property and defend the bottom line, in order to fund ongoing support and development for our customers.
“Since we joined in 2003, The Federation has been instrumental in the recovery of in excess of £400,000 of revenue. There is no doubt in my mind that working in conjunction with The Federation greatly enhanced our ability to recover this outstanding sum of money.”
John Lovelock, director general of The Federation, said: “Anyone who thinks that The Federation is an organisation without teeth needs to think again. This is one of the great unsung stories that we undertake on behalf of our members day in, day out.
“For any software company, £400,000 is a considerable sum of money. And for any corporates’ that think they can just ignore the problem and it will go away, think again, it won’t and we will persevere until it does.”
