Great Ormond St builds RTLS with Block
London VAR Block Solutions tasked with deploying Aeroscout technology at famous children's hospital
Real-time rewards: the RTLS technology will help GOSH with areas such as asset management and patient safety
VAR Block Solutions has won a deal with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) to provide an Aeroscout real-time location system (RTLS).
The Aeroscout MobileView technology will sit on an existing Cisco wireless infrastructure, which was also deployed by Block. The RTLS kit is designed for use in the areas of asset management, equipment maintenance, patient and staff safety, temperature monitoring and workflow management.
Block technical director Marc Chang said that combining the two vendors' technology was a tried and tested formula for his firm. He added that GOSH's wireless infrastructure is "the largest 802.11n location-aware Cisco wireless infrastructure in the NHS".
“Combining Cisco with Aeroscout is a proven combination, and will allow the Trust to leverage the wireless infrastructure to benefit its medical staff and the children in its care," he said.
Sales director Rohan Abey said the project cemented Block's status as the leading provider of wireless technology in the healthcare space.
“The commitment we put into understanding each customer’s particular needs allows us to design solutions that deliver significant benefits for hospitals," he added. "A key differentiator in this deal was also our ability to deliver an end-to-end solution for the Trust.”
Mark Large, IT director at GOSH, said: “GOSH’s ICT strategy centres on meeting clinical need. To that end, we are committed to enabling clinicians to benefit from a full range of mobility and collaboration applications.
“We have found in Block a partner that can be trusted to deliver and who can help us achieve a more responsive IT infrastructure that will swiftly adapt to meet new challenges and opportunities.”
