Huawei put on Spot by Cisco
Huawei Technologies halts sales of networking products in the US
China-based vendor Huawei Technologies has halted sales of its networking products in the US in response to a lawsuit filed by Cisco (CRN, 3 February).
However, Spot, a UK distributor, has said that it intends to sell Huawei products in this country despite receiving a 'cease and desist' letter from Cisco.
"We will be shipping in one to two weeks, once we get our order from Huawei," said George Wellings, a director at Spot.
"Cisco asked us to send them our Huawei stock and examples of our marketing material. But we have been given assurances by Huawei, and we're now waiting for products to ship."
Nick Watson, head of unified channels at Cisco in the UK, declined to say why Spot had been singled out by Cisco.
Spot is not the only UK firm distributing Huawei products. Access Network Services (ANS), in partnership with voice distributor Nimans, has distributed them since April 2002.
Richard Eglon, marketing manager at ANS, said: "Not a lot has happened. All it has done is make more people aware of Huawei."
