BSG and Compaq team up for San offering

Service provider Business Systems Group and vendor Compaq have joined forces to provide a total managed solution for storage area networks.

Service provider Business Systems Group (BSG) and vendor Compaq have joined forces to provide a total managed solution for storage area networks (Sans).

BSG has been a Compaq hardware reseller for almost nine years, and is now one of its biggest San resellers. In combination, the two companies will now provide the hardware, software and consultancy required to initiate a full San solution.

Nick Poole, sales director at BSG, said: "Compaq's San solution is cost-effective when you compare it with its competitors. There aren't that many companies out there prepared or able to offer a total San solution."

He claimed that the formation of the partnership allows BSG to offer its customers a reliable and "best-of-breed San solution" which BSG competitors may not be able to provide.

Web agency Hyperlink, which provides end users with hosting, design, consultancy and software services, has become the alliance's first customer.

Nick Folkes, IT and systems director at Hyperlink, said that by supplying the combined Compaq and BSG San offering to end users, there is a smaller chance of downtime which allows the company to achieve better service level agreements.

"Hyperlink had been a customer of BSG's, but only on the hardware fulfilment side of our operation. Then the company told us it was looking at San solutions too, which is the largest area of growth in our company at the moment," he said.

Folkes claimed that improved access to corporate data can boost company productivity and market share, but maintain competitive advantage.

Poole said that there has been an explosion in the storage market. "The storage business at BSG is growing at a fast rate and doesn't seem to be stopping," he said. "Any company with a web presence will eventually need to look at implementing a San."
