Dell to launch first US store

Direct vendor opens store in Dallas, with New York outlet in the pipeline

Dell will open up its first shop in the US in the next two weeks.

The vendor, which has always had a strategy of selling its goods either over the telephone or online, confirmed that a new store will open in Dallas, with another store due to open later in the year in New York.

However, the stores will not actually sell Dell products. Instead they will be for customers to try out the technology before they buy it.

Dell declined to comment on whether it plans to make a similar move in the UK.

Robert May, managing director of VAR Ramsac, which sells Dell, said: “This is a new step for Dell in the US. However, it is hard to see why it is doing this because its direct strategy has served it very well so far.”
