Vistorm gets on track with rail site contract

Reseller lands lucrative security contract

Managed security VAR Vistorm has secured a three-year contract to provide the security infrastructure for the National Rail Enquiries web site.

The VAR will work in partnership with site owner Transeo – created from a merger between English, Welsh & Scottish Railway and Thales – to ensure the site’s online journey planner can cope with the high demand from end-users.

Martin Dipper, general manager, managed services at Vistorm, said: “The site can receive thousands of hits every second and has an average of 700,000 hits a day. We will build a complex firewall, intrusion prevention and traffic shaping system to ensure it is secure enough to cope with high demand at peak times.”

Vistorm will also act as a 24-hour extension of the Transeo team and will manage and support the security infrastructure going forward.

David Taylor, sales director at Transeo, said: “Downtime is not an option for a web site that the public rely on to provide timely, correct information 24-hours a day.

“We needed a partner that we could trust and depend on to provide an always-on, secure infrastructure even in times of high demand and we found that with Vistorm’s managed security services team.”
