Dane-Elec to push UK sales

Memory firm on look-out for new sales manager

French memory module manufacturer Dane-Elec is believed to be looking for a new sales manager to boost its UK performance.

According to the firm's web site, the UK accounted for just nine per cent of its sales in 2003, compared with 45 per cent from France, 16 per cent from Benelux and 26 per cent from the US.

In 2003, the firm posted a profit of 2.4m euros, compared with a loss of €233,000 in 2002. Turnover fell from €185m in 2002 to €162m in 2003.

Specialising in DRam and Flash memory, Dane-Elec works on an OEM basis with industry giants such as Elpida, Infineon, Micron, Samsung and Toshiba, as well as VARs and integrators.

One source close to the company said the memory market has been hard going. "The price of DRam has bottomed out. Because of the low price of PCs and the fact that the upgrade market is very flat, there has been a lot of fall-out from the traditional reseller market," he said.

However, Joe D'Elia, research director at analyst iSuppli, said the UK PC market is performing well in Europe. "The memory market should be doing pretty well too. The more PCs are needed, the more demand for memory increases," he said.

Dane-Elec was unavailable for comment.
