Ex-Info'P staff unite on support Website

Former Info'Products employee sets up support network Website, following last week's threat by disgruntled staffto take legal action against Compel.

One of the country's largest resellers, Compel was forced to make at least 150 Info'Products staff redundant in the wake of its purchase of the loss-making dealer (PC Dealer, 9 December 1998). The number of redundancies represented between 60 and 80 per cent of Info'Products' workforce.

The Website - Welcome to the Unofficial Ex-Info'Products Staff Resource Site - states: 'This site has been developed for all ex-IP staff to keep in touch with each other. If you want to do the same, then please feel free to register and input your contact details for everyone to see, or just leave a message at the bar.'

The site included a list of 88 ex-employees who had logged onto it with addresses of how to contact them. It also asked people to 'keep in touch with your friends and let others know where you are'.

It is believed the site was set up by an ex-Info'Products employee who was understood to have worked in the technical department at the reseller.

As exclusively revealed in PC Dealer last week, more than 60 former Info'Products staff, led by ex-company director and legal advisor George Fodor, will challenge Compel under European law relating to the transfer of employees from an acquired company. If an organisation makes more than 100 people redundant, it is obliged by law to offer a 90-day consultation period to staff.

It is understood that Compel has still not received any legal notice from the group of ex-employees.
