ASA Attacks Graphic Sony Game Advert for Tekken Things Too Far
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has condemned an advertisement by Sony for Tekken 2 on the Playstation .
The advert featured pictures of a boy with body tattoos, pinned to a wall and surrounded by ?insane ravings written in blood?, including ?pain will bring me closer to the father? and ?I am the Devil Son Kazuya?.
ASA external affairs manager Chris Reed said: ?There is a problem with the way that computer games are advertised. What sometimes happens is that the adverts are placed in magazines with a predominantly older readership, who would not be particularly offended by them, but they get read by younger people.?
The ASA condemned the advert, claiming it was a ?violent and unacceptable? approach.
A similar advert for Virgin Interactive?s game Resident Evil received over 60 complaints last year, the fifth largest number of complaints for the year.
Two computer firms, Apple and CCN Marketing, were asked to be more vigilant in preventing unsolicited mailing after the ASA received complaints from the public.
