Spitfire trials BT's VDSL2

Business ISP is one of nine selected to take part in high-speed broadband trials

Business ISP Spitfire has been selected by BT Wholesale to take part in a pilot trial of VDSL2 (very high-speed digital subscriber line).

A total of nine ISPs have been selected for the trial, including PlusNet and Entanet. It will run from July to December 2009, offering customers downstream speeds of between 15Mb and 40Mb, and upstream speeds of up to 2Mb, with the option to increase to 5Mb later in the trial.

Initially, the trial will take place in Muswell Hill, London and Whitchurch, Cardiff. A further 28 exchanges are expected to be VDSL enabled early next year, eight of those in the London area.

Tom Fellowes, sales director at Spitfire, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by BT Wholesale for this important trial. SIP trunks and hosted SIP telephony are now moving into the mainstream and VDSL will give an important boost to the take-up of these critical new comms technologies.”
