Microsoft VAR targets another three acquisitions in next six months
Microsoft VAR Luxtech has bought Apple reseller Topology UK and plans to target another three acquisitions in the next six months.
Earlier in the year, CRN revealed Luxtech’s plans to acquire channel players to help drive its convergence business (CRN, 9 January). This followed its acquisition of telecoms reseller CSS the previous September.
The VAR, which has other vendor alliances with BT, Alcatel, Swyx and Avaya, has added the assets, staff and customer contracts of Topology.
Speaking exclusively to CRN, Russell Lux, managing director of Luxtech, said the VAR will use the acquisitions to improve its convergence offering and enter new vertical markets.
“The acquisition of Topology will get the Apple Mac side of our business up and running,” he said. “We lacked in this experience before, but the Apple reseller accreditation has now moved across to Luxtech.”
Lux added that the Topology acquisition will allow Luxtech to expand in the media and publishing verticals.
“We are actively pursuing three other acquisition targets, and will make further announcements in the next six months,” Lux said. “The acquisitions will allow us to get into other verticals.”
Alastair Edwards, senior analyst at Canalys, said: “Luxtech is not going to survive in the volume market. It needs to provide a niche focus.”
