US vendor purchases Defcom from receivers
NetSec buys Defcom Information Security for undisclosed sum
Security reseller Defcom Information Security has been bought from administrative receivership for an undisclosed sum by US vendor NetSec.
Defcom, the result of a management buy-out (MBO) from Defcom AB earlier this year, called in the receivers two weeks ago. The company resold NetSec's managed security services in the UK.
Cynthia Bellefuille, operations manager at NetSec UK, formerly Defcom, said: "We have maintained a majority of our penetration testers and the majority of the team."
The company will retain the NetSec UK name but has moved to new premises.
"Defcom was working with NetSec. There was a very close relationship for nine months. Defcom had some success as a reseller of NetSec's managed services. NetSec has a strong penetration testing component," Bellefuille added.
Glenn Hazard, chief executive of NetSec, said: "Our presence in Europe and the expansion of our enterprise customer base are in direct alignment with our global strategy."
NetSec said Defcom would be fully integrated into the company and begin to offer NetSec's complete range of services immediately.
Defcom's MBO earlier this year was financed in part with money from Global Emerging Markets.
The firm also bought reseller Peapod and consultancy firm Peapod Professional Services from administration earlier this year (CRN, 16 December 2002) through its subsidiary Communications Technology Investment (CTIL).
Rakesh Gandhi, an investor in CTIL, said he didn't have a "clear understanding of the purchase at the moment".
