Miro enters another dimension

GRAPHICS CARD

Miro intends to tempt serious PC gamers this Christmas with souped-up product bundles built around its Miro Media 3D graphics acceleration card.

The standalone 3D card can be used to play back video CDs, and comes with 2Mb of EDO-RAM and the latest version of Xing MPEG player. It costs u149 ex VAT and to differentiate it from other 3D accelerators it can be connected to a TV and comes with flicker-free software. "This means you can play DOS games like Quake and Duke Nukem on the big screen," said marketing manager Louise Cole.

The card is also bundled with a pair of 3D glasses for u180 ex VAT under the title Games Set. The glasses allow the user to visualise 3D effects.

"If you think of the glasses as costing only u40, for that they create an amazingly different gaming experience," said Cole.

The top bundle in the Miro set is the Adventure Set which features the 3D board, the glasses and a card for Dolby Surround sound. This will enable the user to get that full cinema-style Surround sound if they buy enough speakers, or emulate it with two speakers.

The Adventure Set will be available in mid-November. The other two products are on sale now. The Miro line will be reviewed in Christmas issues of PC Format, PC Pro, PC Direct, Personal Computer World, What Video, PC Magazine and Computer buyer. Ads will appear in the January, February and March issues of Edge, PC Format and PC Gamer.
